Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, Seth Shepard Searcy, III, died September 11, 2013 in Austin, Texas.
Seth was born on February 23, 1936, to Seth Shepard Searcy, Jr., and Margaret Oliver Searcy.
While his father served in the United States Navy, Seth lived all over the U.S., including two years in Kodiak, Alaska, a place he especially loved.
Seth came to Austin in 1954 to attend the University of Texas. He was in law school at UT when he met Judith Harbin on a blind date. Seth and Judith married in 1960, and Seth received his law degree from the University the same year.
Seth and Judith built a wonderful life for their two daughters, Mary and Sarah, in Austin. The family swam regularly at Barton Springs, attended shows at Armadillo World Headquarters, ate Tex-Mex at the two original Matt’s El Rancho locations, canoed the waterways of Central Texas, loved and cared for a number of cats and dogs, participated in local politics, and enjoyed their wide circle of friends.
Seth was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Jane Searcy Thompson. He is survived by his wife Judith, daughters Mary Searcy Marrero and Sarah Searcy, son-in-law José Marrero, grandchildren Ana Maria Marrero and Tomas Andrés Marrero, sister and brother-in-law Sally and Steve Henrikson, sister-in-law Laura Harbin, brother-in-law Roby Thompson, Jr., and nieces and nephews Searcy Lillehei, Roby Thompson, III, Alix Barzelay, and Charlie and Oliver Henrikson.
A memorial service for Seth will be held at the Barr Mansion on Tuesday, September 17, at 1:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice Austin’s Christopher House, the National Museum of the Pacific War, or CaringBridge.
